From PlayStation Studios and Bluepoint Games comes a remake of the PlayStation classic, Demon’s Souls. With the summoning of The Old One, a colorless fog swept across the land, unleashing nightmarish creatures that hungered for human souls. In his quest for power, the 12th King k9k9 of Boletaria, King Allant channeled the ancient Soul Arts, awakening a demon from the dawn of time itself, The Old One.

Part of this is due to the sheer performance and power of the PS5, and some of it is engineering and development at the hands of Bluepoint Games. Players looking to go from the home screen of the game into gameplay as quickly as possible will be excited to find out that process takes just around 20 seconds. It being exclusive to one platform likely helped the developers focus on optimizing the experience. The change to the heads-up display or HUD and the user-interface or UI is something that the Demon’s Souls community has been up in arms about since the remake’s release in late 2020. Some fans believe that the lack of item names and modernization of many of the design elements take away from the immersion of the game. Others feel it’s an upgrade that modernizes the game in the right way and makes it look much more accessible to gamers who didn’t experience the original game back in 2009 on the PS3.

But rarely does Bluepoint muck with the foundation of Demon’s Souls, because to do so would be sacrilege. Fortunately, there’s a pretty clear indicator that shows when you’ve gone above 50% of your equip weight, which is where those chunky, sluggish rolls start. Level up your Endurance stat at the Maiden in Black if you want to equip heavier armor and weapons but still remain agile. Then you should play through the second level in each archstone in the same order. You may want to save the challenging Valley of Defilement, the rightmost archstone, for last.

In addition to the sad news about Gran Turismo 7, the founder of Icon-Era, Bryank75, also announced that the remake of Demon’s Souls will not be released on OC or “any other platform”. But despite several titles shedding PlayStation exclusivity, we haven’t heard much about a potential Demon’s Souls remake PC release date so far. In Demon’s Souls, a touch of smart quality of life changes and gorgeous visuals go a long way in modernizing this tough PS3 classic. Yurt, the Silent Chief can be found in World 3 – 2, in the Tower of Latria. You can choose to kill him immediately then and there, or you can also kill him once he arrives at The Nexus and you’ll still be able to claim the armor set.

For an axe of its stature, the Ritual Blade’s Weight rating is only 10, making it easily usable by most characters regardless of your build. Though its damage output dwindles mid-game once you begin to upgrade other weapons, the Ritual Blade is a powerful early-game tool, particularly for those who invest in Strength and Endurance stats in Demon’s Souls first stages. It was true in 2009, when developer FromSoftware released the mechanically groundbreaking role-playing game on PlayStation 3, and remains true for Bluepoint Games’ remake, released alongside Sony’s PlayStation 5 this week. Yes, Demon’s Souls is often as difficult as this series’ reputation would lead you to believe it is, but I’m struck by how balanced much of this game feels. A big part of the credit there has to go to the game’s character building and equipment systems. There are some builds that are “better” (or more optimized) than others, but generally speaking, it’s easy to build your character based on your preferences rather than what you assume the game wants you to do.
