There are so few important landmarks in this version of New York City that the game could’ve taken place in a regular town and felt no different. It brings you closer to that Batman feeling of utterly dominating nameless thugs with your combat prowess. And the way both characters’ powers grow over the course of the story are very satisfying. Very few of the alternate color schemes look better than the default, though.

There are plenty of directions he could go but trying to pick the ‘right’ one is overwhelming and paralyzing. But when a fierce power struggle threatens to destroy his new home, the aspiring hero realizes that with great power, there must also come great responsibility. Both Peter and Miles retain their own unique way of swinging and flipping through the city, replete with a collectible wardrobe of suits that sent this reviewer to the game’s photo mode for hours. All of this contributes to fighting back against crime in each district of New York, a city now twice the size of what we’ve seen before including the leafy residential roads of Queens and the bustling borough of Brooklyn. There are 14 unique districts, each with its own set of objectives to complete before you can unlock fast travel to that part of the map. Gliding is especially great for crossing long distances thanks to the numerous wind tunnels that carve their way through New York’s seemingly endless grid of streets flanked by art deco architecture and modern mirror-like skyscrapers. The main story took me around 18 hours to complete before I hit 100%, and the subsequent platinum trophy popped up to congratulate my efforts after 27 in total. Despite whatever loftier ambitions the story may have, this is still unapologetically an old-school approach to open-world game design, and nowhere is this displayed more clearly than in its optional quests. A new personal favourite gadget called the Web Grabber – which pulls enemies in from a distance and makes them smack into one another – also playfully builds into this philosophy.

Of all the enemies that Peter Parker and Miles Morales face in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, few are as terrifying and relentless as Venom. Head to the Eastern side of the building and get to the top of the yellow-netted scaffolding to find the Spider-Bot. To reach it, you’ll have to go to the rooftop of the thin and wide building just North of the indoor stadium to the South of the Spider-Bot. Stand on its North-Western corner, then hold L2+X  to charge up a Slingshot Launch. Head for the North-Eastern corner of the plaza and look for the building wall with a vertical mural, depicting a cat on the bottom, a book in the middle, and a woman at the top. TG88 -Bot, JJJ, can be found close to the Northern border of Greenwich.

Head for Avengers Tower (the tall skyscraper with the red A on it), then check the buildings just West of it. The Spider-Bot will be here on the North face of one of the brick buildings. This Spider-Bot, Spider-Punk, is found high up a skyscraper in the North-East corner of the district. Here you’ll find a park area between the two roads, with a building in the middle with a columned structure on top. The Spider-Bot will be crawling on the Western side of this building among the columns. The Flipside Spider-Bot can be found in the North-West corner of Greenwich.

To celebrate the launch, the primary suit in the game, Peter Parker’s Advanced Suit 2.0, will be available to purchase and use in Marvel Rivals starting tonight.
